LAKEWOOD, Colorado – A 12-year-old has been arrested for allegedly threatening a Lakewood middle school.
Lakewood Police received reports Tuesday and Wednesday of a planned school shooting at Creighton Middle School. The threats included a photo of what appeared to be a handgun and was made via social media, according to Lakewood PD. They were reported via Safe2Tell.
On Thursday, a 12-year-old was arrested for interfering with staff, teachers or students at educational institutions – credible threats and harassment.
According to the Lakewood Police Department, the 12-year-old is not a current or former student at the school. They previously resided in Lakewood but currently reside in Denver and attend Denver public schools, Lakewood PD said in a news release.
During the investigation, officers uncovered a “realistic-looking counterfeit handgun,” Lakewood Police said.
Because the suspect is a juvenile, authorities are not releasing her name.
Lakewood PD closed the release by thanking students and staff at Creighton Middle School, Jeffco Public Schools and R1, calling the investigation a “joint effort.”
