The police are investigating a 23-year-old man who got into someone else’s VW around 12:00 p.m. in the area of the Sindelfingen Forest petrol station and rest area and drove away because of theft, driving without a license and endangering road traffic.
A 58-year-old man was actually driving the VW.
His 55-year-old wife and 28-year-old daughter were in another car together. The family stopped with both vehicles in the truck parking lot of the rest area and the 58-year-old got out to dispose of waste in one of the garbage cans.
Meanwhile, the daughter noticed that a stranger had taken the driver’s seat of the VW and started to turn around. The woman tried to stand in front of the car to stop the theft. However, she dodged because the stranger accelerated.
The family followed with the second vehicle and alerted the police at the same time.
Extensive search measures on the federal motorways 8 and 81 did not lead to the identification of the VW. As a result, the VW was listed in the police search system for theft.
Around 1:50 a.m. on Monday morning, the Hessian police contacted the traffic police inspectorate in Ludwigsburg. In the Offenbach am Main area, the 23-year-old evaded a traffic check with the stolen VW and later crashed into a traffic island.
The VW was so damaged in the accident that the 23-year-old could no longer flee and was temporarily arrested instead.
Since there was a suspicion that the 23-year-old had been driving under the influence of drugs, he had to undergo a blood test. The suspect does not have a driver’s license. The investigations are currently ongoing.
