Abel Ferreira will not lead Palmeiras in the match against Santos, in Vila Belmiro, for the 7th round of Série A of the Brazilian Championship. That’s because this Saturday (13), in the duel between Alviverde and RB Bragantino, the hung Portuguese captain was warned with a yellow card and will have to comply with suspension.
The move that led to the warning to the coach of Verdão happened in the 23rd minute of the second half of the match at Allianz Parque.
Endrick received the ball high, in depth, and managed to beat Eduardo’s marking. With the ball still in the air, the striker from Palmeiras tried to move goalkeeper Cleiton, but was pushed by the rival archer and fell inside the area.
The referee of the match, Sávio Pereira Sampaio, however, did not award a penalty and alleged Endrick’s hand touch in the play, which generated intense complaints from Abel Ferreira.
Practically in the next move, Juninho Capixaba received a pass from Lucas Evangelista and hit a bomb from outside the area. The ball went in the angle, with no chance for Weverton to defend.
With that, Verdão should be commanded by assistant João Martins in the classic against Peixe. Palmeiras goes to Vila to face the rival at 9 pm (Brasília time) next Saturday.
However, the Portuguese coach’s men have now seen the key to the Copa do Brasil – since Verdão’s next appointment is in the middle of the week, for the national knockout competition. In the last game of the sequence of three consecutive matches at home, Palmeiras receives Fortaleza on Wednesday, at 19h, for the first leg of the round of 16 of the dispute.
