Abel praises Palmeiras defense after second straight game without conceding goals

After conceding goals in six consecutive games, Palmeiras managed, this Sunday, in the 5-0 victory over Goiás, for the fourth round of the Brazilian Championship, to keep their goal zero for the second consecutive match of the season. In a press conference, coach Abel Ferreira congratulated his defense

“To defend well, you need a definite commitment. It’s more difficult for players to be available to help the team in this defensive moment, of running backwards. Fortunately I have players of character, today we saw that. Serious and focused players, giving your best for the best result. Congratulations to the team’s defense. I’m not just talking to the four defenders and the goalkeeper. We started defending from the center of the pitch to the goalkeeper. And the attack is from the goalkeeper to the striker”, he said .

The coach, however, also warned that it is not necessary to make a big fuss when the team is leaked in some matches.

“Sometimes we concede goals in two games in a row, in separate competitions, and the press starts talking that we start conceding goals… we have to be calm. Even now that we have the best attack we are the best, there is always room for improvement. Not always when we concede goals we are the worst”, he analyzed.

“There are goals that are my issues, questions of strategy, game plan, positioning. There are rules that we have to comply with. And when these rules are not followed, we call attention, whether in training or video”, he concluded.

With the thrashing of Goiás, Alviverde, which achieved its first victory away from home in the Brasileirão, rose to second place, with 10 points, two less than Botafogo, who beat Atlético-MG and follows 100% .

Palmeiras returns to the field this Wednesday, when they face Grêmio at Allianz Parque, at 21:30 (Brasília time), for the fifth round of the Brasileirão.
