A 46-year-old was fatally injured in a traffic accident in Berlin-Lichtenberg on Sunday evening. The man had apparently collided with an approaching car while trying to drive into a gas station. As the Berlin police announced on Monday, the cyclist is still in intensive care.
According to the investigations so far, the man was on his motorcycle on Buchberger Straße shortly after 7 p.m. on Sunday. When trying to turn left into a gas station, the 46-year-old collided with an oncoming car and was thrown onto the road. Only after about 70 meters did the motorcyclist come to rest with serious injuries.
Alarmed rescue workers took the critically injured man to a hospital, where he immediately underwent emergency surgery. No information could be given on Monday about the current condition of the man. The 20-year-old driver and his passenger were not injured. The scene of the accident was closed until around 2 a.m. early Monday morning. In the course of further investigations, the police confiscated both vehicles.
