Warner Bros. has pushed back the release date of the DC sequel Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom, starring Jason Momoa as the eponymous superhero, by five days to December 20, Deadline reports.

The heavily delayed flick was originally scheduled to hit theaters on Christmas Day 2022.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the visual effects team was unable to handle the required post-production.

It was then given a new date of March 17, 2023, before being moved to Christmas Day 2023.

Meanwhile, Momoa recently said he’s confident Aquaman will feature in the revamped DC Universe.

The 43-year-old actor doesn’t think it will be his last appearance, though James Gunn and Peter Safran are now at the helm of DC Studios as they lead the DCU into a new era where the character won’t be in the first round included is title announced in January.

He told Total Film magazine, “I absolutely believe Aquaman will be a part of the DCU. Here we go, brother – there’s no one bigger than Aquaman!

“But I also hope people are excited to see the new one. It is fun. I really like doing comedy. There’s some really fun stuff with Patrick Wilson.

“I really adore him. We had a great time working together. It’s like we’re brothers. A lot of cool things happen here.”

Earlier this year, Momoa confirmed he’d hooked up with Gunn and Safran after they took over the studios late last year, while there were rumors he might ditch Aquaman to play another superhero named Lobo.

He told Variety: “The beauty [about ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’] Me and my partner wrote the first cover for it, and it was a 55-page cover, and a lot of it has to do with talking to the UN about what’s happening with the melting ice caps.

“There is no galaxy far away that will destroy us or aliens from somewhere else. We’re ruining our planet. We must pull ourselves together and save our home.

“I will always be Aquaman. Nobody comes in and takes sh***. Maybe there are other characters too. I can also play other things. I can be fun and wild and charming.”
