The ban is intended to prevent empty bottles becoming a tripping hazard or being used in physical altercations.
As in previous years, on the coming Ascension Day, the carrying and use of glass containers is prohibited throughout Prince Albrecht Park (including Nußberg) and in Heidberg Park forbidden. The city of Braunschweig points to a corresponding general decree. The ban applies on May 18 from 10 a.m. to midnight. Areas used by catering law are exempt from the ban.
“The experiences of previous years have shown that glass containers carried on Ascension days, i.e. primarily bottles, are often not disposed of properly,” says a press release from the city. “Many are emptied and placed on the ground or, not infrequently, willfully smashed.”
The police and ZOD monitor compliance with the ban
The ban is intended to prevent empty bottles becoming a tripping hazard or being used in physical altercations. “shards on the ground massively increase the risk of cut injuries in the event of a fall. They also make cleaning the site considerably more difficult.”
The police and the central security service (ZOD) of the city administration will monitor compliance with the ban. In the event of violations, they can confiscate glass containers. The city advises that cans, plastic or hard plastic cups or plastic bottles are alternatives for taking drinks with you.
