Before Derby, Palmeiras’ alternative team draws with Tombense and advances in the Copa do Brasil

End of fasting! Just over two months after scoring for the last time — against Red Bull Bragantino, for Paulistão —, Breno Lopes scored again for Palmeiras. This Wednesday (26), the number 19 scored the only goal for Alviverde against Tombense, at Estádio Parque do Sabiá, in a game that ended in a 1-1 tie. Alex Sandro scored for the home team, at the end of the game .

With the result in Uberlândia, Palmeiras managed to qualify for the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil after winning the first game by 4-2. The CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), on a date yet to be chosen, will define the games of the next stage of the knockout competition via draw.

Meanwhile, Abel Ferreira’s men turn their attention to the Brazilian Championship. At 6:30 pm (Brasília time) this Saturday, Verdão receives Corinthians at Allianz Parque. The derby will be valid for the 3rd round of the national dispute of consecutive points.

Tombense, on the other hand, starts to focus on Série B of the Brasileirão. Marcelo Chamusca’s team will also host Atlético-GO this Saturday, at 6:15 pm, in search of their second victory in the tournament.

The game – The match started truncated in Uberlândia. The alternative lineup of Palmeiras and the more offensive formation of Tombense denoted, at the beginning of the game, a certain lack of rapport between the two parties: the visitors calmly exchanged passes in the defensive field, while the home team tried to apply more acute pressure.

At 12 minutes of confrontation, Breno Lopes opened the scoring. Giovani pressed the opponent’s ball and made the tackle, starting at speed. Palmeiras’ number 17 found the 2020 Libertadores hero alone inside the penalty area: number 19 alviverde had time to dominate and, calmly, pierce Felipe Garcia’s nets to open the scoring.

With an even greater advantage in the tie, Verdão ‘cooked’ the game more. Without haste, the alviverde attack, when it arrived, arrived with force: as for example at 29, in a dangerous header by Flaco López after a free kick by Jhon Jhon. Two minutes later, it was Giovani’s turn to endanger the home team’s goal.

At 34 minutes, Flaco received from Jhon Jhon after an error in Tombense’s ball exit and, inside the penalty area, he crossed the ball. In another chance lost by the striker, the ball went close to Felipe Garcia’s crossbar.

Near the end of the final stage, another good chance alviverde. Breno Lopes started on the left and served Vanderlan in the center of the penalty area. The left winger filled his foot and forced a good defense from the Tombense archer – the Minas Gerais defense, in the sequence, threw the ball for a corner.

2nd time

With no changes for the final stage, Palmeiras was again in danger at the beginning of the period. Flaco López served Jhon Jhon at the entrance to the area and the number 40 arrived hitting, but saw the ball deflect in Tombense’s defense and go for a corner.

Tombense’s first arrival of danger happened at 7 minutes of the second half. Guilherme Santos started on the left and, at speed, crossed low into the area, with strength. The ball went towards Weverton, who needed to spread it out.

Shortly after, Verdão responded with another attempt by Flaco López: this time, the number 18 filled his foot from outside the area, but the ball went over the goal. In the 18th minute, Breno Lopes crossed into the area, Flaco deflected with his head and the ball was left clean for Jhon Jhon who, however, missed the header in front of the goal.

The other great opportunity missed by Palmeiras happened three minutes later: Jhon Jhon served Breno Lopes in the half-moon, but the number 19 stopped in another intervention by Felipe after an attempt to shoot for cover.

At 24, Abel Ferreira called Piquerez, Mayke and Rony, back after recovering from a fracture in his right forearm, for the game. Rústico took danger shortly afterwards and ‘called’ the crowd to the confrontation, in a kick from the entrance of the area.

At 34 minutes, Rony crossed, Felipe Garcia couldn’t fit in and dropped the ball at Luis Guilherme’s foot. On the rebound, the Academy’s Cub was fatal – however, after checking the VAR, Ramon Abatti Abel annulled the goal for offside.

Who really rocked the net was Alex Sandro, from Tombense. Six minutes later, after an error in Fabinho’s ball, the number 9 of the home team took off in the middle and kicked hard, in the right corner of Weverton, with no chance of defense for the goalkeeper of Verdão: 1 to 1.
