President Joe Biden will spend the weekend at his beach house in Rehoboth, Delaware, after forcing asylum officials along the southern border to work both weekend days to cope with the influx of migrants following the end of the Title 42 public health order.

On Friday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre announced that the President would deliver the commencement address at Howard University on Saturday morning in Washington, DC

“The President will then travel to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where he and the first lady will be staying over the weekend,” she said.

The announcement comes after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is forcing asylum officials to work all weekend to deal with the spate of southern border migrants seeking asylum in the US, Fox News Digital reported exclusively on Friday learned .

A DHS memo sent Friday morning by the deputy director of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Refugee, Asylum and International Operations (RAIO) and viewed by Fox News Digital said staff on Thursday about the need to work at least one day this weekend – and now the agency is going a step further.

“Developments emerging throughout the day have made it clear that more resources are needed and we must take immediate action to increase the number of available staff on both Saturday and Sunday to meet the need.” it in it.

“In order to ensure full operational readiness, I now have to ask all staff in the asylum department, with a few exceptions, to work both Saturdays and Sundays this weekend,” says Assistant Director Ted Kim.

The memo said the only positions exempted will be those that do not directly support the “credible fear” process – under which migrants seeking asylum first demonstrate they have a credible fear of persecution if they be sent back to their home country.

The unusual mandate comes hours after Title 42 Public Health Regulations on the southern border ended Thursday evening along with the COVID-19 national emergency. The order has been in effect since March 2020 and allows for the rapid deportation of migrants at the southern border.

The move had raised expectations of a huge spike at the border as migrants believe they are more likely to be admitted to the US – a claim DHS has repeatedly denied.

Border guards encountered 10,000 migrants per day This week has seen at least three days of decline so far, with several sectors facing overcapacity.
