Biden’s approval rating hits all-time low as reelection campaign launches: poll

President Biden’s approval rating has hit an all-time low as he launches his re-election campaign, according to a new poll released Thursday.

The poll, conducted by Gallup, found that just 37% of adult Americans approved of Biden’s job performance as president, the lowest since July 2022, when just 38% said they approved. A whopping 59% of adults said they dislike it.

According to Gallup, Biden’s approval rating has hovered in the low 40s over the past 19 months, compared to a peak of 57% immediately after taking office in January 2021. The latest poll lowers his average (39.7%) in the ninth quarter of his presidency below that of former President Donald Trump (41.6%) over the same period.

Broken down by political party affiliation, 83% of Democrats, 31% of Independents, and 4% of Republicans said they approve of Biden’s job performance. Gallup noted that the 31 percent approval rating from independents is consistent with its lowest score in the group, down nine percentage points from February.

According to the poll, Biden’s deteriorating job approval corresponds to Americans’ increasingly negative views of the economy. It turned out that only 16% rate the economy as excellent or good; 37% rate it as “just fair”; and 47% describe it as bad, up from 43% who said the same thing in March.

Only 19% say the economy is improving but 75% say it is getting worse.

The poll closed on the day Biden announced he would run for a second term in the White House, although other polls showed a majority of members in his own party did not want him to run again.
