The last few months have been hectic for Bobi, a mongrel from Alentejo who in February was named the oldest dog in the world by Guinness World Records. On the 11th, the furry guy turned 31 and won a party with favorite food, music and cake for the guests.
Bobi lives in a rural area of Leiria, Portugal, and he’s not just the oldest dog alive; it is the oldest among all records in the Guinness Book of Records. Since the Guinness certification, he has received numerous visits and posed for pictures.
The tutor, Leonel Costa, 38, describes Bobi as very sociable. However, due to the busy routine lately, he took the dog in for a checkup recently.
To the book of records, before the party, he said that he expected about a hundred people, some even from abroad.
The dishes for the event, which included fish and meat, were also designed for Bobi, who does not eat animal feed.
Images shared on a profile created on a social network in honor of the dog show that the party, which took place on the 13th, featured typical music and dancing, a cake with a Bobi print and the traditional “Happy Birthday to You”.
Photos also show that the elderly man did not seem to be bothered by the movement and even fell asleep at one point.
The tutor attributes longevity to the peaceful environment in which Bobi lives. He said that, because of his age, the dog now prefers to stay at home more, instead of exploring the region. Hearing isn’t as good anymore, as is his eyesight—so he sometimes bumps into objects while walking.
According to the publication, Bobi’s date of birth was confirmed by the municipality’s veterinary medical service and also verified by the Siac (Company Animal Information System) database in Portugal.
The life expectancy of the herd guard breed is between 12 and 14 years.
Previously, the title of oldest dog of all time was held by Australian Shepherd Bluey, who died on November 14, 1939, aged 29 years and 5 months.
