Bounty Killer won the Reggae and Dancehall Icon Award at the 2023 IRAWMA.
Bounty Killer added another one International Reggae and World Music Prize his collection at this weekend’s annual awards ceremony. The dancehall mogul received the Reggae/Dancehall Icon Award. IRAWMAwhich celebrated its 40th anniversary on Sunday, has garnered praise from Bounty Killer over the years, and last night was no different.
During his acceptance speech, Bounty Killer gushed about the Jamaican awards show and encouraged viewers to look forward to the staging every year much like one would look forward to the Grammy and Emmy awards.
“It’s not easy to keep these things going,” Bounty Killer chimed in while accepting his award. “Even in the pandemic, these people are making sure they recognize who is to be recognized. So listen Jamaica, let’s support each other. Everyone’s excited for the Grammy and the Emmy and Nommy, but listen IRAWMA! This is no drama. 40 years! Wul dat,” said the Grammy-winning dancehall star.
Bounty Killer’s on-stage tribute comes a week after the dancehall star opened up about it The star how pleased he was to be nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award, which was said to be “better than a Grammy”. Bounty told the publication, “I’m honored to be nominated for this Lifetime Achievement Award. It feels good to be recognized for my contribution to the music I really love. In all, I thank God, my mother Ms Ivy and I could not have done this without my management team led by my friend and manager Paul ‘Bankey’ Giscombe.”
The Reggae/Dancehall Icon Award The recipient continued, “I am grateful and appreciate the recognition for my hard work and success in keeping dancehall music alive and paving the way for generations to come. I feel like staying focused is a big responsibility, and it happens musically and otherwise because you have to hold yourself to a certain level of integrity. It’s a blessing, but at the same time, it helps you stay grounded and focused. Thank you very much, IRAWMA, for this great honor. It’s really appreciated,” he said.
Bounty also shared a special moment of laughter backstage with Spice as they basked in the glory of their respective awards. Dressed in a stunning royal blue gown, the Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta star took home the trophy Global dancehall queen. Spice and Bounty Killer definitely agree on the value of this award. During her acceptance speech, Spice thanked everyone who supported her career, including Killer herself, and said the award was a big deal. “It’s a very big thing, it’s no small thing. It’s a very big deal,” Spice said.
The annual International Reggae and World Music Awards was held on Sunday May 7th at The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston.
