Bundestag decides on care reform – Braunschweiger Zeitung Current News

The Bundestag has passed the controversial care reform with relief for those in need of care and higher contributions. 377 MPs voted by roll call for the law by Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD). 275 MPs voted no, two abstained.

In view of rising costs, the reform of the traffic light coalition envisages increasing the care contribution by 0.35 percentage points on July 1st – a little more for people without children. It is currently 3.05 percent of gross wages, and 3.4 percent for childless people.

The care allowance for those in need of care at home, which was last increased in 2017, is to be increased by 5 percent at the beginning of 2024. Surcharges for those in need of care in the home are also expected to increase in 2024. Most recently, the government factions of the SPD, FDP and Greens had agreed on improvements that should benefit family caregivers at home.
