One of the most impressive signs that the MCUs could be coming early Captain America: The Winter Soldier. As Cap and Black Widow make their way through a ship being held captive by pirates, they are stopped by the ringleader: Batroc the Leaper. For comic fans, Batroc was one of the goofier characters in Cap’s villain gallery, a Frenchman straight out of history Monty Python and the Holy Grail, who is really well endowed with the power of jumping. But in The Winter SoldierBatroc was played by UFC fighter Georges St-Pierre, who had a really cool action sequence with Cap.
“If that’s what the MCU can do with Batroc, imagine what they’re going to do with Crossbones?” we all thought. Introduced in Captain America #359 As the Red Skull’s enforcer during writer Mark Gruenwald’s legendary run, Crossbones quickly established himself as a formidable counter to Cap, a gruff gangster-turned-ruthless mercenary. So when Crossbones emerged as duplicitous SHIELD agent Brock Lumlow The Winter SoldierPlayed by no less a B-movie star, Frank Grillo, fans were right to have their hopes up.
Grillo’s Lumlow lends itself as Crossbones in the sequel, civil war. For about five minutes. And then he gets blown up, never to come back. Even humble old Batroc gained more respect and made another appearance The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
It sucks and we’re not the only ones who think so. Speak with Comicbook.comGrillo complained that they “never told a story” about his character. “Crossbones was there a minute but he should stay there longer then they went in the direction they did,” he pointed out. “He’s only been on screen for a bloody short amount of time,” Grillo said. “I think there was more meat on the bone. I was disappointed which is why I went to DC.”
