Cardinal Woelki from Cologne won a legal dispute against the Axel Springer publishing house. He had sued against reports of an abusive minister being promoted against his better judgment.
Dhe Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki of Cologne has achieved success in a lawsuit against the Axel Springer publishing house. In a judgment announced on Wednesday, the Cologne Regional Court banned the allegation by the “Bild” newspaper that the archbishop had promoted a priest, even though he was aware of two incriminating documents against the cleric.
In the process, the press chamber, chaired by judge Dirk Eßer da Silva, heard Woelki personally at the end of March.
The archbishop of Cologne had complained about an online report by “Bild” that he promoted the priest in 2017, although he knew of a police warning against the clergyman being used in youth work and another incriminating document from his personal file.
In 2001, among other things, the priest had sexual contact with a 16-year-old prostitute. After that, there were rumors of further abusive behavior.
