Carnival Row’s Cara Delevingne had a terrifying experience filming in the freezing temperatures

As Cara Delevingne explained during the aforementioned “Conan” Q&A, the “Carnival Row” scene in question between her and Bloom “was shot on location in Prague [where] They had an incredible backlot.” But she added, “It was absolutely freezing.” Noting the lot’s low temperature, Bloom said, “I think it was probably minus six [Celsius, i.e., 21 degrees Fahrenheit].” With the studio’s standard “rain airships” frozen and useless, Delevingne continued, the crew had to point water hoses at the actors and continuously flood them with water.

Apparently, Bloom’s costume became a problem as well, as one component of his outfit conspired to make his co-star’s life even more wetter and awkward. “Orlando had a bowler hat on,” she said, “so when they put the hose on his bowler hat, I just got water back in my face.” The actress continued to pantomime her hilarious efforts, Bloom continuing her emotional, heartfelt lines while she periodically stopped to bend down and spit out water. While “Carnival Row” may evoke a magical, fairytale realm for audiences, filming certain moments for Cara’s fairy vignette could be an icy, wet nightmare.
