Cruzeiro stops at Walter and loses to Cuiabá in Sete Lagoas

On the night of this Monday (22), Cruzeiro experienced its second defeat in the Brasileirão, losing to Cuiabá, by 1 to 0, in Sete Lagoas (MG). The result came after a game in which Raposa even dominated most of it, but stopped in the excellent defenses of goalkeeper Walter, who helped to guarantee the triumph for Mato Grosso. It was up to Deyverson to score the only goal of the match. Thus, Raposa left the G-4 of the competition and dropped to fifth place, with 12 points, against seven from Cuiabá, in 14th place.

First time

Despite Cruzeiro’s superiority, right from the start, it only became a real danger to Cuiabá’s goal in the 21st minute, when Henrique Dourado headed in from close range and Walter made the first of several saves in the game. Wesley and Dourado, again, had chances, but it was Cuiabá that almost scored after a counterattack, in which Wesley kicked Rafael Cabral’s crossbar. In the next minute, however, came the goal, when Fernando Sobral crossed and Deyverson headed to make it 1 to 0. In celebration, he raised his fist in an anti-racist gesture, in honor of Vinícus Júnior. Cruzeiro even squeezed a few times until the break, but without hitting the target.

Second time

After the break, it was the visiting team that came back more dangerous, coming close with shots from Fernando Sobral, Deyverson and Cafu. It was only after 20 minutes that Cruzeiro began to press with great volume. Gilberto and Wallisson had good opportunities in the area, but Walter stopped both, defending. Cuiabá started to play further back to hold the result and Cruzeiro started to raise many balls in the area. In one of them, Gilberto almost scored, but once again the rival goalkeeper appeared well. The last chance was a foul by Bruno Rodrigues, forcing Walter to work and guarantee the indigestible score for the hosts.
