Ezekiel Elijah Elliott known as Zeke Elliott, born on July 22, 1995, is a former American football running back and currently a free agent. He attended Ohio State University where he received recognition as a second-team All-American in 2015. In the 2016 NFL Draft, he was picked by the Dallas Cowboys as the fourth overall selection. During his seven-year tenure with the Cowboys, he was twice selected as an All-Pro and three times as a Pro Bowler. Last season, Elliott’s performance as a starting running back was subpar, as he ranked last in the NFL for yards per carry (3.8), tackles avoided (32), and percentage of runs that went for 10 or more yards (7.4%). The move to release Elliott will reportedly be processed as a post-June 1 cut, giving the Cowboys $10.9 million in cap relief while incurring $5.82 million in dead money on this year’s cap. Although he had $64.76 million remaining on his contract, none of his salary was guaranteed.
