Davido returns after the tragic death of his son with the album Timeless

It has been almost six months since the untimely death of Davidos three-year-old son Ifeanyi.

The Afrobeats superstar’s son drowned in a pool at the singer’s home on Banana Island in Lagos state. Following the incident, Davido took a break from his music career and the public eye to process it all and be with family.

He’s now opening up about the tragedy, saying he’s healed and “ready to get back up.” Davido’s 17 track album called Timeless is his fourth studio project since he ventured into music 11 years ago. During his interview with CNNhe explained the meaning behind the album’s title as a manifestation of his goal for the album to remain a classic for decades to come.

“I know that if you interview me, we’ll still be talking about this album for years to come,” he said.

Artists such as British-Nigerian rapper Skepta, Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Angélique Kidjo and Jamaican performer Dexta Daps are all featured Timeless.

It’s no secret that Davido is extremely talented and produces hit after hit. He expressed that with Timeless Everyone listening has a song to their liking.

“Every time I play the album to someone, there are two or three tracks that they personally like and can take home. And I think that’s how an album should be.”

Ahead of the release of his album, Davido used Instagram to let his fans know that the album was on the way. He thanked his followers for their love, support and patience.

“There is a time for everything. A time to mourn and a time to heal.
A time to laugh and a time to dance. A time to speak and a time to be silent.

Thank you to everyone out there for your love and support that has held me down. All the love and messages while I was away, the gifts sent, the concerts you all threw! I appreciate all of that. Today I want to remind you all that what is now timeless was once new. It’s time for something new.

My next album TIMELESS is out March 31st,” he wrote.

Since the release of his album A Better Time over three years ago, Davido has believed the world needs his energy right now.

“I want them to feel a breath of fresh air when they hear the album. Everyone knows when you wake up you want to go to Davido’s Instagram story to see what he’s up to today and stuff like that. I just want them to feel like love and energy have returned.”

Like most people who grieve, Davido explains that he went through three distinct phases. He notes that while the tracks are full of energy and good vibes, the loss of his son had some impact on the project.

“Before my son died, we had the album ready. But it was a tragic situation and I really needed to calm down and take a step back. On the album you’ll hear a few songs that might take you back and get you into some emotions… you’ll definitely hear me talk about a few things that I’ve been through personally.”

Now that he’s back on the scene and doing what he loves again, he hopes to keep making music that people resonate with.

“This is what we are here for, this is what we were brought into this world for. I’m just ready to come back, I’m ready to just get back on the road. A lot will be different.”
