Delhi taxi driver sexually molested 6-year-old girl for a year, arrested: cops

New Delhi:

A 30-year-old taxi driver was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl as he was taking her to school, South East Deputy Police Commissioner (DCP) Rajesh Deo said. Police said the accused had been identified as Mohd Azhar.

According to the police, the accused was arrested on the basis of a complaint by the victim’s mother.

DCP Deo added: “The complainant reported that the accused driver hired a taxi to take her six-year-old daughter to school.”

“On Wednesday, the victim informed her mother that the taxi driver inappropriately touched her privates while taking her from school for about a year,” DCP added.

Police stated that based on the victim’s mother’s complaint, an FIR under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act was registered at Shaheen Bagh Police Station.

“Following the victim’s mother’s complaint, an FIR u/s 376 IPC and 6 POSCO Act has been registered at Shaheen Bagh Police Station,” DCP Deo said.

Further investigations into the matter are ongoing.
