Anything but an April Fool’s joke was the Selm am Conservancy’s rubbish collection campaign

April 1st. Despite the rainy weather, almost 50 hard-working people gathered

Helpers at the hut of the Jakobsbrunnen restaurant in order to set off from there to all parts of the district. The common goal was to free nature and roadside ditches from rubbish. Not only hunters who have their hunting grounds in the city area were armed with buckets and garbage tongs, but also children and volunteers who wanted to support the campaign.

The chairman of the conservation Heinz-Georg Mors praised the final

Coming together with pea soup and drinks everyone’s willingness

Lending a hand to those present when it matters most. All big and small

Beforehand, collectors could dispose of their loot and finds in the large container provided by Stadtwerke Selm

District administrator Mario Löhr and deputy mayor Hugo Brentrup examined the sometimes bizarre finds such as toilet seats, fenders, bumpers, car tires, computer screens and lots of rubbish and glass bottles. “It’s nice to see how many people are willing to do something for nature despite the rainy weather,” Hugo Brentrup summarized the successful campaign. Mario Löhr thanked the helpers and emphasized the importance of civic engagement.
