Diesel retreats 3.65% at service stations in Brazil in March, gasoline soars, says Ticket Log

The average price of S-10 diesel at service stations in Brazil fell 3.65% in March compared to the previous month, to 6.39 reais per liter, after cutting prices at Petrobras refineries last week, pointed out the Ticket Price Index Log (IPTL) published this Wednesday.

The value of common diesel retreated 3.62% in the period, to 6.30 reais per liter.

The index is based on fueling carried out at the 21,000 accredited Ticket Log stations, Edenred Brasil’s fleet management and mobility solutions brand, which manages 1 million vehicles, with an average of eight transactions per second.

After Petrobras cut the average price of diesel, “in a few days, the country’s fuel pumps already had a decrease of 0.85% in the national average price of the common type and of 1.31% in the value of the S-10 type” , said in a note the general director of Mobility at Edenred Brasil, Douglas Pina.

The transfer of adjustments made by Petrobras in the prices of gasoline and diesel at refineries to final consumers, at gas stations, is not automatic and depends on a series of issues, such as taxes, biofuel mix and distribution and resale margin.

“The same occurred in most Brazilian regions, with emphasis on the Northeast, where, in four days, the common type already registered a reduction of 1.02% in the price of the common type; and in the North, where the S-10 type already showed a reduction of 2.94%.”

All regions recorded a reduction in the price of diesel, added Ticket Log.

GASOLINE AND ETHANOL

According to Ticket Log, gasoline was sold in the country at an average of 5.88 reais per liter, with an increase of 8.92% when compared to February.

Ethanol closed the period at 4.60 reais per liter, with an increase of 3.70% compared to the previous month.

The last national average reduction for gasoline that arrived at the country’s fuel pumps was identified by the IPTL in December last year.

Gasoline has seen average increases of around 1% since January, the company said.

Ethanol has already accumulated increases since November, when it closed at 4.29 reais per liter.
