Crane tears traction power lines on the Berlin-Rostock route

A truck with a loading crane tore the high-voltage line of the Deutsche Bahn in the district of Rostock, causing a nearly ten-hour blockage of the railway line between Güstrow and Rostock. The incident happened in the morning at the Augustenruh level crossing between Schwaan and Güstrow, as a spokesman for the federal police said on Wednesday. The crack in the line, which carries a voltage of around 15,000 volts, resulted in an electric shock to the vehicle and to the ground. The driver of the box vehicle with the rear-mounted loading crane did not want to have noticed anything.

The affected part of the Berlin-Rostock railway line was closed until after 8 p.m. due to the extensive repairs. As a result, 27 trains had to be diverted, and one train was canceled entirely. A total of 29 trains were delayed by more than ten hours. The federal police have started investigations and want to clarify whether the three-axle vehicle might have exceeded the prescribed clearance height. Nobody got hurt.
