DJ and cultural producer André Pomba died at the age of 59, on Saturday, 22, in São Paulo. The information was confirmed on social networks by the Heavy Metal band Vodu, in which he was the bassist.
“Go there @andrepomba…ETERNO!! Thank you for everything you’ve done for all of metal and their social programs!! It’s time for you to rest…voa..voa,” the band wrote in an Instagram post.
The musician was admitted to the Hospital Sancta Maggiore, in São Paulo, and was fighting stomach cancer. The wake and cremation took place this Sunday morning, the 23rd, at the Vila Mariana Cemetery, in São Paulo.
The Municipal Secretary of Culture of São Paulo also mourned the death: “It is with great regret that we inform you of the passing of DJ André Pomba. Journalist and cultural producer, André Cagni, DJ Pomba, became known for playing in the underground and LGBTQIA+ scene of our city. The Municipal Secretary of Culture wishes the deepest condolences to all friends and family. His great musical talent will always be alive in our culture”.
Pomba was an icon of São Paulo nightlife. He became known for playing in the city’s underground and LGBTQIA+ scene. The musician also founded the magazine dynamite.
