Mercury Studios released the poster and trailer for the documentary “Have You Got It Yet?: The Story of Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd”, which tells the story of the founder of Pink Floyd. The production featured the estate of Syd Barrett and the three surviving members of the British band, Nick Mason, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, all interviewed for the project.
Barrett co-founded Pink Floyd with Waters, Mason and Richard Wright in 1965, when he was still a teenager, and was the visionary responsible for the creation of the band’s first classics, in the album “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and A Saucerful of Secrets”. With unstable mental health and after unpredictable behavior in concerts, Barrett was replaced by guitarist David Gilmour, leaving the band for good in 1968.
As his health declined, Barrett released two solo but highly influential albums in 1970: “The Madcap Laughs” and “Barrett”. In the middle of that decade, he returned to live at his mother’s house in Cambridge, where he remained a recluse as a painter and cult hero for the next 30 years, until his death from complications of diabetes in 2006, aged 60.
The synopsis promises that “Have You Got It Yet?” revealing details of “his rise to stardom, his creative and destructive impulses, breakdowns, departure from the band and later solitary life… in the social context of the explosive 1960s”.
The documentary was co-directed by Storm Thorgerson (from Hipgnosis), a designer who was a longtime partner of Pink Floyd, signing several classic covers of the band, together with Roddy Bogawa – who curiously made a documentary about Thorgerson’s art (“Taken by Storm: The Art of Storm Thorgerson and Hipgnosis”).
The premiere takes place on May 15 in the United Kingdom and there is still no forecast for a release in Brazil.
