The alarm went off at the district control center just before 6 p.m. In addition to the full-time staff, several fire engines from the volunteer fire brigade immediately moved to Königsberger Allee.

A car was said to be on fire between the driveway to Autobahn 31 and the entrance to Dorsten in the direction of the city center. Because smoke rose from the engine compartment of a car that was parked on the right-hand side of the road, passing drivers alerted the fire brigade.

A number of drivers even stopped to help. Fortunately, however, the car did not catch fire. The smoke was probably caused by a technical defect. A seal might have burst. Königsberger Allee was closed for the duration of the operation.

The car was no longer drivable and had to be towed.
