Dutch Prime Minister Wants to Talk Ukraine with Lula

BRASILIA, 09 MAG – The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, is on an official visit to Brazil and spoke yesterday (8) in São Paulo about his intention to discuss with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva about the war in Ukraine.

Lula will receive Rutte at the Planalto Palace, in Brasília, this afternoon (9) and, later, he should attend a dinner at the Itamaraty Palace.

The premier declared that he wants to explain to Lula why support for Ukraine is an “existential” issue for Holland and the European Union.

“if [Vladimir] If Putin succeeds in Ukraine, and I don’t think he will, it won’t end there. People are concerned about their own safety, in Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris and Europe,” added Rutte.

Lula has defended the creation of a “club” of countries that facilitate peace in Ukraine, a proposal he spoke about last Friday with the British prime minister, Rishi Sunak, in London. The EU and the United States criticized Lula for having said that Ukraine and Russia are equally to blame for the conflict in Eastern Europe.

Rutte arrived in Brazil along with a delegation of businessmen and should also include the agreement between Mercosur and the EU in the conversation with Lula. On Wednesday (10), the European official should visit the Northeast region. .
