Fabio Paratici believes Antonio Conte’s exit from Tottenham was ‘the right decision for everyone’.

Tottenham director football Fabio Paratici has insisted Antonio Conte’s departure from the club was ‘the right decision for everyone’.

Conte left Spurs by mutual consent on Sunday night after 16 months at the north London club.

His exit came after an extraordinary rant at his players after they gave up a 3-1 lead against bottom side Southampton.

Paratici expressed his sympathy for Conte following his departure, telling the club’s social media: “We know how difficult this season has been for him personally.

“Gian Piero [Ventrone] died, and [Gianluca] Vialy and [Sinisa] Mihajlovic and then his surgery.

“The club gave him and everyone a lot of support [supported] but then we came to this mutual agreement and the decision we made was the right decision for everyone.’

Cristian Stellini will manage Tottenham in Conte’s place until the end of the season, having previously guided the side to victory against Manchester City and the director of football seemed confident he was well suited for the role.

“He has a lot of experience second and was first [team] coaches in the past,” he said of Stellini.

“But then we have Ryan Mason who can help him a lot as he has been a part of this club for a long time and knows everything about this club and this group of players.

“So I think we’re really, really confident that these two people [team] can do a very good job.’

“Players don’t have to change their habits or their training style. Changing everything with ten games to go would be very difficult for the players.”

Spurs have been closely linked with former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann but Paratici shrugged off speculation as he added: “We don’t want to talk about other coaches.

“We are focused and we are now focused on helping Cristian, the staff, Ryan and the players,” he said.

“I think today we have to focus on our squad and our coach because it’s an important moment.”

Whoever is in charge, Spurs face a touch challenge this season if they hope to qualify for the Champions League.

They are fourth for the time being but Newcastle are just two points behind them with two games to play.

Tottenham will be next in action when they take on Everton on Monday.
