Giuseppe Conte is investigated for his Covid-19 management account
Former Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and former Health Minister Roberto Speranza will be questioned on May 10 in Brescia, as part of the inquiry into the management of the first phase of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Conte, leader of the anti-system Movement 5 Stars (M5S), and Roberto Speranza, of the left-wing Article First party, will be heard by the Court of Ministers of Brescia and are among the 19 investigated in the case.
The thesis of the Public Ministry of Bergamo is that the immediate enactment of quarantine in two cities of the province – Alzano Lombardo and Nembro – would have prevented 4 thousand deaths from Covid in the first months of the pandemic.
The province of Bergamo registered its first cases on February 23, but it only went into lockdown on March 9, with the rest of the Lombardy region – the national quarantine would start the next day.
The authorities’ stance differed from that adopted for the 11 cities that registered the first contagions by internal transmission in Italy, on February 21.
On that occasion, the 11 municipalities – 10 in the province of Lodi, in Lombardy, and one in the province of Padua, in Veneto – were immediately transformed into a “red zone”, a strict regime that even included a curfew. .
