Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s friends George and Amal Clooney today proved they took no side in the dispute between the Montecito couple and the Windsors by expressing their support for King Charles.
The Hollywood actor, 62, and his British-Lebanese wife, 45, looked very stylish as they entered the 2023 Prince’s Trust and TKMaxx & Homesense Awards in central London.
Today’s event recognizes the incredible achievements of young people across the UK who have completed and thrived on the Prince’s Trust schemes, with the charity being a vital building block in the King’s life’s work.
The couple attended Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle in Windsor in 2018, although they later reportedly admitted they “didn’t know the royals well” at the time.
But they eventually became firm friends with Amal, a select group of friends, a year later at Meghan’s baby shower in New York – although it’s unclear how close the four are today.

At Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018, the couple received a “first seat” alongside Lady Carolyn Warren, who is married to John Warren, the Queen’s adviser, and across from Princess Margaret’s son Viscount Linley.
Surprisingly, it was later reported that the couple told other guests that they didn’t know the happy couple well at all, according to Rachel Johnson.
“In 2020, it transpired that Carolyn Bartholomew, Diana’s former roommate, was waiting for the wedding reception to begin, approached the couple next to her and asked how they knew Harry or Meghan,” Johnson wrote in the online publication AirMail at the time . “We don’t,” the Clooneys replied happily.”
Carolyn, who attended the wedding with husband William, is Harry’s godmother and one of three young women who shared Diana’s flat at Earl’s Court, and was privy to the secret when she first met Charles.
George and Amal caused quite a stir when they arrived at the royal wedding and were among the exclusive guest list of 200 invited to party the night away at Frogmore House. George is said to have danced with both Meghan and Kate Middleton, 39.

Since the wedding, there have been conflicting reports about how well the Clooneys knew the couple.
According to Finding Freedom, the biography of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Clooneys have received the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at their British home in Sonning, Oxfordshire, on at least two occasions.
The book added that Harry and Meghan brought their dogs and that George and Amal loved going for walks by the lake with friends.
“There was a secluded covered area and inside was a lounge decorated with traditional club wood paneling, heavy curtains, dark velvet fabrics, plush chairs and a bar.”
The bio also reveals that the Clooneys invited the royals for a trip to Lake Como just weeks after the royal wedding on George’s private jet.

During the three-day visit, a source said: “Meghan and Amal spent a lot of time relaxing by the pool and playing with the twins while George and Harry looked through George’s motorcycle collection.” Harry got one of them out with one of his guards. George recently had an accident and hasn’t gotten back on his bike yet.”
“The Duke and Duchess weren’t the only guests this weekend. Eugenie and her fiancé Jack Brooksbank were already at the villa when Harry and Meghan arrived, their visits briefly overlapping.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Good Morning America, Omid Scobie, co-writer of Finding Freedom, also revealed that Harry and George were bonded through their love of motorcycles and also played basketball together.
The book also revealed that Amal hired a private jet to fly Meghan home from her New York baby shower in February 2019.
In 2018, an insider told People magazine, “Meghan and Amal have known each other for a while.” [and share] many interests,” adding that the actress’ lawyer helped her settle into her London life.
When asked about their friendship in an interview with the Mail in 2019, George was vague about how he first met the couple, saying, “I just met her.”
He added, “We don’t live too far apart, we eat dinner and stuff like that and we’re friends with them, for all the reasons that you’re friends with anyone.”
“They’re just really nice, fun, friendly people, they’re a very loving couple and they’re going to be great parents.”
