With the Walter Scheel Cup at the Berlin-Wannsee Golf Club, the FDP commemorates its Federal President, who was in office from 1974 to 1979.

Berlin. Since 1999, the FDP has organized a golf tournament in honor of its Federal President, Walter Scheel. Thanks to sponsor Rainer Jacobus, CEO of Ideal Versicherung, the tournament has been held for five years at the Wannsee Golf Club, the home club of the Federal President who died in 2016.

He provided the best weather “from above”, tournament organizer Ute Spangenberg created the best atmosphere. She put the flights together with experience and knowledge of human nature in such a way that all guests really felt comfortable, even if they didn’t check the FDP.

As a social democrat, Klaus Wowereit cut a good figure in a polo shirt with the Walter Scheel logo. “He wears the FDP shirt with grandeur,” said the Vice President of the Wannsee Golf Club, Kay Lindemann.

Target water for victory

After grilled sausages freshly delivered from Thuringia were on the grill at the reception on the roof terrace of Ideal Versicherung in Kreuzberg the previous evening, there was a contrasting program at the halfway hut: fresh salads, chicken skewers and chilled fruit. But the longing for a sausage was very great for some…

The three water dispensers installed on the pitch with the best Berlin tap water were used to supply drinks, and Ute Spangenberg also gave small bottles as “target water” during the round.

Christian Linder takes over the award ceremony

FDP Finance Minister Christian Lindner only came to the award ceremony on the terrace in the evening. “I would have liked to play, but it’s better for you that I prevent nonsensical green politics than that I dabble in golf,” he said. In the opinion of many guests, he should do the prevention even more intensively.

The Walter Scheel challenge cup, a small bronze bust with a marble base, went to Dr. Matthias Frederichs from Golfpark Wagenfeld in Lower Saxony. Roland Brenneis (handicap 3) played the best round of the tournament with three strokes over par. “The target water helped,” said the restaurateur from the “Umami” restaurant in Großbeeren.
