Defender had a head clash with Lucas Lima and had to be replaced at halftime in the classic with Santos
The Palmeiras fan took a hit during the break in the 0-0 draw with Santos, this Saturday, at Vila Belmiro. That’s because Gustavo Gómez, who had suffered a head clash with Lucas Lima, had to be substituted as a precaution. In addition, the defender had to go to the hospital to undergo tests and rule out a possible concussion, but he was released and will return to São Paulo with the alviverde delegation.
The play between Gómez and Lucas occurred in the first half, when the two disputed a ball and ended up having a collision with the head. Both needed to be attended to, but the Palmeirense got the worst of it. Although it seemed like a more serious move, the Paraguayan continued on the field for the remainder of the initial stage and even had to take an analgesic to ease the pain.
However, according to assistant coach João Martins, in a press conference, Gómez showed discomfort during the break and the coaching staff decided to remove him as a precaution and put Naves in his place. Concerned about the symptoms presented, Captain Alviverde went to the hospital to rule out more serious head injuries.
– About Gustavo Gómez, he is in the hospital, it seems that the news is good. We had to take him out at halftime because when he stopped doing the exercise he started to feel dizzy and sick. As a precaution we cannot have such a player and we decided to replace him and he went to the hospital to rule out any problems, but we are still not sure what happened.
After the tests, which ruled out brain concussion and were carried out in the city of Santos, Gómez was released from the hospital and returned to São Paulo with the Palmeiras delegation. That way, he should be available to Abel Ferreira for the team’s next appointments. It is worth remembering that the squad, at the moment, has only three defenders: Gómez himself, Luan and Naves. Murilo is recovering from surgery on his right shoulder and has no set date for his return. Young Michel, from under-20, has been training with the group.
