GOTG Vol. 3’s great death isn’t what we expected

Trailers often give too much away, but when it comes to Lylla, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailers cleverly mislead the viewer. Marvel fans may know that Lylla and Rocket have a much happier story in the comics. So when the promotional materials see the otter hugging Rocket and laughing on the floor, it’s easy to see those moments of happiness as a sign of reunion. However, in reality, Lylla is shot immediately after this hug from the trailers. Furthermore, Floor (Mikaela Hoover) and Teefs (Asim Chaudhry) die immediately after Rocket’s retaliatory attack, leaving the enhanced raccoon truly alone in the world.

Sure, Lylla is a relatively minor character in the grand scheme of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her impact on Rocket’s life, the shocking circumstances surrounding her death, and the instant, face-splitting devastation Rocket unleashes in retaliation add up to one of the most emotional death scenes in the franchise.
