The German Weather Service (DWD) has warned of severe thunderstorms with heavy precipitation in the area from Hamburg to the Bay of Lübeck – Norderstedt and Pinneberg are particularly affected. “A lot of trees fell over there,” said a spokeswoman for the west rescue control center on Monday. Manhole covers had partially come up.

Until late in the evening, the rescuers in the Norderstedt area recorded 85 and a further 20 weather-related missions around Pinneberg. According to a spokesman, there was no serious personal injury.
In the early evening, the thunderstorm continued towards Stormarn and Lübeck. A spokesman for the regional control center put the total number of operations in this area at 120. These included flooded basements and garages as well as fallen trees and manhole covers that had come up, but no serious injuries.
On the Hamburg-Lübeck railway line, trains were canceled due to trees that had fallen on the track. First, the section between Bargteheide and Bad Oldesloe, and later that between Bad Oldesloe and Lübeck, had to be closed.
The situation service of the Hamburg fire brigade reported in the evening of a total of 35 weather-related operations in the north-east of the city, for example “on a Langenhorn-Duvenstedt axis”. Trees fell onto the street, basements filled up. There was no major damage or injury here either.
