Striker Róger Guedes is the highlight of Corinthians in the current season. Top scorer on the team with 14 balls in the net in 23 games, the number 10 seeks to score his first goal against São Paulo wearing Timão’s mantle, this Sunday, at the Neo Química Arena.
Known for being decisive in classics, Guedes has four goals in six games against Palmeiras, in addition to two goals in six matches against Santos.
Against Tricolor Paulista, the striker has five games (426 minutes) and no goals scored. Róger Guedes’ only goal against São Paulo came when he defended Atlético-MG, in a 2-2 draw at Morumbi, in 2018.
In an interview with podpah, at the beginning of the year, Guedes spoke about the “fast” against São Paulo. “I want to score (goal) in São Paulo. Only in São Paulo I didn’t score for Corinthians. I’ve done it playing for Atlético, but not for Corinthians, they just lack in the classics. Even Guarani did it”, commented the striker.
The trend is for the number 10 to be a starter at Majestoso, forming the attack with Adson and Yuri Alberto. The player has been varying between playing open on the left and centralized as a more advanced striker.
Timão arrives for the classic in a troubled moment, without winning for four games. The team is in 16th place in the Brazilian Championship, with only four points conquered. São Paulo, in turn, is in ninth position, with eight units.
Corinthians and São Paulo face each other this Sunday, at 4 pm (Brasília time), for the sixth round of the Brazilian Championship. The game will be played at Neo Química Arena, in Itaquera.
