Hubie Brown Creer
Following his release from the Hawks, he began broadcasting for USA Network’s NBA coverage, including playoff games, and CBS before joining the Knicks. Hubie gave his skills to CBS once more in the 1985 NBA playoffs while still coaching the Knicks, who were not in the playoffs, alongside Brent Musburger.
He was hired by CBS full-time as a broadcaster in December 1986 after being fired from the Knicks, and the following season he was promoted to the second team. He worked alongside Verne Lundquist as the third team during some regular season and postseason games.
Hubie and play-by-play man Dick Stockton were both hired by CBS in 1988 to take over for Billy Cunningham as the network’s chief commentator. He stayed with CBS until the termination of their NBA coverage following the 1990 NBA Finals and then worked on local broadcasts for the Philadelphia 76ers and Detroit Pistons before joining TNT in the early 1990s.
Hubie joins ABC as their top NBA commentator after leaving the Grizzlies. Hubie worked alongside Al Michaels and Mike Breen on select regular-season and playoff games, including the 2005 and 2006 NBA Finals, before being replaced as a primary commentator by both Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy. He is now a play-by-play broadcaster for ABC and ESPN, working with Mark Jones and Mike Breen. Hubie also contributes to ESPN Radio’s NBA playoff and NBA Finals coverage.
He joined the New York Knicks in 1982, taking over for long-time coach Red Holzman. Hubie remained with the Knicks until 1986 when he was fired after a 4-12 start to the season. Following playoff appearances in his first two seasons, the Knicks fell to 24-58 in 1984-85 and 23-59 in 1985-86.
