Confidentiality is paramount when working for the Royal Household, which is why staff are required to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). Working in such close proximity to the royal family, secrets are likely to be overheard, but never, under any circumstances shared. However, Angela Kelly received special permission from Queen Elizabeth II herself to write and publish a book about their friendship. Given the strict rules governing the Queen’s staff, this news was considered exceptional, but it proved just how high Kelly’s standing was.
“The Queen has personally given Angela her blessing to share her unprecedented bond with the world,” Kelly’s publisher HarperCollins explained (via the Daily Mail). “Angela Kelly is the first acting member of the royal household to be granted this extraordinary permission. Whether it’s getting ready for a formal occasion or brightening Her Majesty’s day with a playful joke, Angela’s priority is to serve and support.” Amazingly, Elizabeth did not give Kelly permission to write a book , but three. In fact, Elizabeth was so behind Kelly’s writing endeavors that she even helped publish The Other Side of the Coin: The Queen, the Dresser, and the Wardrobe in 2019, which she wouldn’t do for anyone. Books are written about Elizabeth and the monarchy every day, but Kelly had that incredibly rare royal cachet.
