He served as co-captain for Carlton from 2019 to 2021 and has been the sole captain since the 2022 season.

After being named as the substitute player, Cripps played his first game in the Australian Football League (AFL) during St Kilda’s Round 6 match against Adelaide at AAMI Stadium. Following the 2012 season, Cripps was traded to the West Coast Eagles, along with draft pick 46, in exchange for draft picks 41 and 44.

Cripps made his senior debut against Melbourne during Round 4 of the 2014 season, but due to injuries, he only played three games that season. Following the 2014 season, Cripps switched from wearing the number 16 jersey, which he had worn during his debut, to number 9 after it became available following the delisting of Kane Lucas.
