“Thor” star Ray Stevenson dies in Italy at the age of 58

He has acted in Marvel movies and in the Star Wars universe. Ray Stevenson has died on the Italian island of Ischia.
London. The Northern Irish Hollywood star Ray Stevenson is dead. His agency confirmed that he died on the Italian island of Ischia on Sunday. She did not provide information on the cause of death. Stevenson was 58 years old. According to the daily newspaper “La Repubblica”, Stevenson was on the island to film the action film “Cassino in Ischia”. Accordingly, he was brought to a clinic on Saturday for an unspecified illness.
Stevenson had his breakthrough as an actor with a leading role as a Roman legionnaire in the series “Rome” (2005-2007), later he was among others in several “thor”-Movie adaptations as Volstagg, one of the titular Marvel hero’s best friends. As the musketeer Porthos in “The Three Musketeers” (2011) alongside Matthew Macfadyen and Logan Lerman, he thwarted the scheming Christoph Waltz, in “Vikings” (2020) he played the mysterious seafarer Othere.
Ray Stevenson dies: Actor to be seen in the “Star Wars” trailer
Last year Stevenson starred as naval officer Jack Swinburne in the third season of the German series Das Boot. According to the industry magazine “Deadline”, he was most recently cast as the leading actor for the historical drama “1242: Gateway to the West”. In the trailer for the not yet released “Star Wars”-Spinoff “Ahsoka” he can also be seen as the human force user Baylan Skoll. (fmg/dpa)
