The Berlin leader of the Greens, Bettina Jarasch, rejects an extension of preventive detention for climate activists. “Preventive detention means putting people in prison for crimes they have not yet committed. That’s questionable and that has to be strictly limited,” she said on Wednesday morning on rbb Inforadio. The chairman of the German police union, Rainer Wendt, had called for preventive detention of up to 30 days to be made possible nationwide, as is possible in Bavaria.
