Jennifer Coolidge is too ‘immature’ to have children.
The 61-year-old actress admitted her friends encouraged her to adopt, but believes she would have made a better stepmother and theorizes whether having a family of her own would have made her ‘grown up’.
Speaking to the summer edition of Britain’s GQ magazine, she said: “I’m very, very immature. I think that’s what stopped me from having kids because I’m kind of a kid. If I had kids, maybe I should have grown up.”
Jennifer also admitted that she has a habit of dating intense men.
She said: “I’ve never had a chilled boyfriend who was just full of joy, you know? Someone who will laugh at all your shortcomings. That’s never the person I choose for myself.”
The American Pie actress has enjoyed a career boost in recent years thanks to her role as Tanya McQuoid in both series of The White Lotus, but she admitted she almost turned down the winning role due to her mental health issues.
She said: “I was kind of not in the mood. [Was it fear of failure – or possibly success?] I was depressed, I was very depressed.”
But after the first season, Jennifer got involved in brainstorming for the show alongside creator Mike White — and she joked that her pitch was “got it.” [her] killed”.
She explained: “I had encouraged Mike to tell an Italian story. I said I’d like to be in Italy or something, riding around on a Vespa while all these men reached out and tried to light my cigarette. this is my fantasy But then I guess that suggestion killed me.”
Jennifer will be speaking at the GQ Heroes conference in partnership with BMW, taking place July 19-21 at Soho Farmhouse, Oxfordshire. Read the full interview at https://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/article/jennifer-coolidge-interview-2023 or buy GQ from 13th June.
