Keanu Reeves severely cut his own dialogue in John Wick 4

In the pantheon of great action heroes, John Wick is a little different from the rest. He’s not virtually invincible, he doesn’t take the time to flex his inhumanly large muscles, and he’s certainly not a talker. While he’s spoken more in previous John Wick movies, he wasn’t one for long, drawn-out dialogue sequences or snarky comebacks. The best thing to get out of him is a quote like “yeah I think I’m back” or the “Matrix” callback that he needs “guns, lots of guns” and that’s fine. Besides, John Wick movies are all about action anyway.

There is no doubt that the story behind the John Wick franchise is strong and the lore just keeps getting deeper. At the same time, people are buying a ticket for these features because they want to see the Baba Yaga ripping through low-level criminals and engaging in amazing battles with skilled assassins. After all, one of the hallmarks of the “John Wick” saga was the use of gun-fu: a practical cinematic fighting style that combines hand-to-hand combat with the strategic use of firearms. To put it simply, John Wick’s actions speak far louder than his words. So why waste time letting him talk when that time could be spent doing some badass action instead?
