John Lenon Menezes Maia, suspected of killing the 2-year-old girl Lorena Ferreira Rodrigues, was arrested last Wednesday (5/31) after the case was resumed on the “Linha Direta” program. He had been on the run for over a year and was found by the police in Manaus, Amazonas.

According to the police, John Lenon was detained because of anonymous tips. He used a false name and worked as a car washer on Rua Atagamita, in the Aleixo neighborhood, in the south-central zone of the capital. The boy tried to flee at the time of the approach, but was shot in the foot.

The accused was taken to the Hospital 28 de Agosto to treat his injuries, and then taken to the Police Station Specialized in the Protection of Children and Adolescents (DEPCA).

Lorena’s aunt, Ana Beatriz Barbosa Guimarães, was also arrested again on Wednesday (5/31) by the Civil Police after confessing her participation in the crime. The police station had already issued a preventive arrest warrant against her.

Last month, “Linha Direta” recalled the death of little Lorena Ferreira Rodrigues during the approach to the Henry Borel Case. The edition highlighted that the main suspect had been on the run since March 2022.

Lorena was murdered by her aunt Ana Beatriz and her partner, John Lenon. They were responsible for looking after the child while the mother was away on business. Her body was found inside a bag buried in the backyard of her grandfather’s house. The 2-year-old girl had signs of abuse and head trauma.

At the time, the aunt was arrested in flagrante delicto for concealing a corpse, was detained for two months and was released shortly afterwards. Her companion, however, provided clarifications to the police, denied participation in the crime and remained on the run.
