Man dies after being run over by BMW at high speed: Delhi Police

A 36-year-old man died after his two-wheeler was allegedly run over by a speeding car in the early hours of Sunday near Moti Bagh metro station in west Delhi, police said.

Ajay Gupta, who ran a grocery store, was on his way home when he was run over, sources said.

The car was being driven by a 28-year-old woman. The Ashok Vihar resident, an architect by profession, was allegedly speeding when she first hit a generator and then ran over Gupta. She had just returned from a party in Greater Kailash when the accident happened, police said.

The woman was arrested, they added.

Police received a PCR call at 4.08am regarding the accident. When we got to the spot, two vehicles were found in a damaged condition on the road to the Moti Nagar flyover. Neither the driver of the defaulting vehicle nor the victim were found at the scene, said Ghanshyam Bansal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West).

The driver of the vehicle in question took the injured Gupta to ABG Hospital, from where he was taken to ESI Hospital by his relatives. When the police arrived at the scene, they found that the victim was unable to give a statement. He later succumbed to his injuries, Mr Bansal added.

“Investigations revealed that the victim went home after taking medication at the hospital while the woman was returning home from a party,” the officer said.

Gupta leaves behind his wife and two children who live in Basai Darapur. His family members told police that Gupta left home late at night to get medicine for himself, he said.

Police have a case under Section 279 (reckless driving or driving on public ways), 337 (injury by an act endangering the life or personal safety of others) and later Section 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code registered .

Gupta’s body was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for an autopsy, police said.
