The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Thane Police arrested a gang operating a fake telephone exchange in the Bhiwandi area of ​​Maharashtra’s Thane and arrested many.

According to officials, after receiving information about a fake telephone exchange located on the fifth floor of a building in Gauri Pada in the Bhiwandi area of ​​Thane district, the ATS arrived at the site late in the evening to search it.

“One of the defendants jumped from the roof of the building to avoid being hit by the ATS and died. The body has been sent for an autopsy,” Thane police officers said.

The police are looking for the apartment owner and have confiscated all belongings, the raids are ongoing.

Further investigations are ongoing.

In July last year, Moradabad police blew up an illegal international switchboard and arrested two people for operating the fake switchboard.

The fake telephone exchange operator converted international calls to local calls.

The accused converted VoIP calls into GSM calls via SIM boxes.

“Moradabad police caught fake telephone exchange operators converting international calls to local calls. Two people were arrested for operating a telephone exchange. The accused converted VoIP calls to GSM calls via SIM boxes,” Moradabad Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Bhadauria said.

The defendant converted international calls into local calls for Indians living in Saudi Arabia.

Around 550 SIM cards and Rs 63,000 were seized from the accused.

The two defendants were identified as Mohammad Kaleem and his brother Mohammad Mehraj.

“They used to do that for Indians living in Saudi Arabia. In doing so, they cheated the government. Around 550 SIM cards and Rs 63,000 were seized from the accused. A person from Saudi Arabia who runs the fake switchboard sent money to the accused earlier,” Moradabad SP added.

Arrested Mohammad Kaleem said he went to Saudi Arabia in March 2022, where a man taught him how to make money by converting international calls to local calls.
