Man runs on the highway and is run over

A man was run over by a car on the A44 near Geseke and fatally injured. The 46-year-old ran onto the road at a rest stop.

A 46-year-old man was run over by a car on the A44 near Geseke east of Dortmund and was fatally injured. The man, who came from Poland according to initial investigations, drove back to his home country from Holland in a minibus on Friday evening, the Dortmund police said on Sunday.

While resting in a parking lot, the man ran across the roadway of the adjacent motorway and climbed into a central barrier. According to the police, when he wanted to go back to the hard shoulder from there, he collided with the car of a 53-year-old driver.

A police spokesman said it was still unclear why the man entered the freeway. According to the police, the A44 in the direction of Kassel remained completely closed while the accident was being recorded.
