Manchester City have rejected Al-Ahli’s £18m offer for winger Riyad Mahrez but reckon the Saudi club will up their offer while they speak to Kyle Walker amid interest from Bayern Munich

  • Manchester City have rejected an £18m bid from Al Ahli for Riyad Mahrez
  • The Saudi Arabian side have agreed on terms and are ready to upgrade their offer
  • Due to Bayern Munich’s interest, the Citizens are in talks with Kyle Walker

Manchester City have rejected an £18m offer from Al Ahli for Riyad Mahrez and are awaiting an improved offer.

City are also in talks with Kyle Walker over his future amid interest from Bayern Munich and will hold talks on their offer for Red Bull Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol on Tuesday.

Mahrez, 32, has spent five years at Manchester City but his time at the club appears to be over after Mail Sport previously reported he had accepted personal agreements with Al Ahli.

Since joining from Leicester City in 2018, Mahrez has made 236 appearances for City, scoring 78 goals.

But the winger was disappointed when he was left on the bench in last month’s Champions League and FA Cup finals and he sees a new opportunity in Saudi Arabia, where he has been offered £43million a year plus bonuses for the past two years.

Newly promoted Al Ahli are one of four clubs – including Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad – to have been acquired by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund in June.

Meanwhile, Red Bull Leipzig’s Gvardiol is among the potential arrivals at Man City and Mail Sport also report that the club have their eye on Lyon centre-back Abdoulaye Ndiaye.

Man City are also interested in Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard, who could come into play if Walker is willing to risk the move in the opposite direction.

Gvardiol is a centre-back and not a full-back like Walker, but he is 12 years younger and could increase the competition for spots in Pep Guardiola’s defence.
