Matthäus: “Are they Bayern players?” – Effenberg with a fitness accusation

Irrespective of the outcome of the title fight in the Bundesliga, Lothar Matthäus believes that changes in Munich are urgently needed. “It can’t go on like this at Bayern Munich! There must now be a tough analysis and a relentless review with consequences, on and off the pitch. Regardless of names or positions,” said the record national player of “Bild”. Stefan Effenberg also made a clear statement.

Matthäus’ ex-club from Munich is two points behind Borussia Dortmund in the last match of the season next Saturday. “Far too many mistakes were made overall,” said the 62-year-old.

Matthew: No “Mia san Mia” on the pitch

Both in the club leadership as well as sporty. “Not just this season, it started last season,” said Matthäus, citing the composition of the squad as an example: “Names were committed, but the question is, are they really Bayern players, Mia-san-Mia -Player? I didn’t see Mia-san-Mia in the second half against Leipzig.”

Bayern lost 3-1 to RB Leipzig on Saturday, and on Sunday BVB passed FC Augsburg 3-0 in the table.

Also Effenberg with harsh criticism of Bayern

Former national player Stefan Effenberg also criticized FC Bayern a lot and sees the fitness level of the Munich team as the reason for the poor performance in recent weeks.

Effenberg therefore sees the players of FC Bayern Munich in poor physical condition. “I have the impression that Bayern are not able to march over 90 minutes,” said the 54-year-old on Sunday in the Sport1 program “Doppelpass”. With a view to the fact that the German record champions broke several times in the second half this season, he said: “It has to be related to fitness.”

Overall, FC Bayern is without a leader on the pitch – “not with the heart and fitness you need to be German champions”. Within the team there are “unbelievably many construction sites”. In addition, the former Bayern professional criticized the changes in the starting eleven: Coach Thomas Tuchel does not have eight or nine players “on whom he relies in the long term”. After the 1: 3 on the penultimate match day against RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, the Munich team is threatened with a season without a title.

The focus of the criticism was mainly CEO Oliver Kahn. Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic also has to put up with uncomfortable questions about the composition of the Munich squad. “I don’t think there are,” Effenberg said of possible personnel consequences at management level. If Borussia Dortmund becomes champion, he expects Kahn to “take the next season in such a way that he says we have to straighten things out”. (dpa/dv)
