In the midst of Centrão’s offensive on the government’s environmental agenda, the Minister of Indigenous Peoples, Sônia Guajajara, said that the earlier meeting with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), the Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva, and other leaders was fundamental to “reaffirm the commitment” with the indigenous peoples.
“Today’s meeting with President Lula and fellow ministers was essential to reaffirm our commitment to support indigenous peoples. We will guarantee a solid environmental agenda. We will continue to carry out all possible dialogues for the maintenance of indigenous rights”, wrote the minister. The post was shared by Lula.
With the approval of the Planalto Palace, the report of the Provisional Measure (MP) on the restructuring of the government, prepared by deputy Isnaldo Bulhões (MDB-AL), dehydrates the ministries of the Environment and Indigenous Peoples, contrary to the commitments assumed by Lula in the election campaign. With the negative reaction, the president called a meeting with the ministers to assure them that the government will negotiate with Congress to maintain the current structure of the Esplanada.
