Melbourne strip club manager reveals what happened on Lidia Thorpe’s night before outrageous row

The manager of a strip club where Lidia Thorpe was spotted yelling profanity claims the renegade senator went up to “white men” before the incident and said “they stole my country”.

Ms Thorpe was filmed firing an extraordinary spray at a group of men at 3am on Sunday outside Maxine’s Gentlemen’s Club in north Melbourne, saying in a menacing tone, one saying ‘You have a small penis’ and another ‘ You are drawn”.

Maxine’s general manager David Ross told Daily Mail Australia Ms Thorpe’s behavior was “simply unacceptable” and she has been banned from the establishment for life.

He revealed bouncers kept a close eye on the Greens defector throughout the evening because she was “a bit argumentative” during the wild night out with friends.

“One of our security officers said they thought she (Ms Thorpe) was causing trouble because she went up to white men in the crowd and told them they had stolen their land,” he said.

However, Mr Ross said that although the senator had been drinking, she was “not drunk” and was not asked to leave.

The heated altercation came around 3am after the venue closed.

Ms Thorpe, who was out with a group of three friends for a 50th birthday party, previously told 7News she was allegedly provoked and harassed by the men.

“It’s sad that people are doing everything they can to bring me down when we’re trying to discuss important issues in this country,” she told the network.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Ms Thorpe’s office for comment on claims she was the one who provoked punters.

Mr Ross said he reviewed footage of the extraordinary spray on the club’s security cameras and has since spoken to staff working on the night.

“She was very lively and argumentative,” he said.

“I think it’s thanks to our bettors that they didn’t get aggressive and tried to handle the situation.”

Mr Ross revealed he would write a letter to the senator’s office on Monday morning telling her she had a lifetime ban from the club.

“I’ve never seen a racially motivated problem at our club before,” he said.

“We have Lebanese, we have Muslims, we have Christians, we have blacks, we have whites. We have people from all nationalities coming to the club. I like to say adult entertainment has universal appeal — it doesn’t matter what background you come from, it’s all entertaining. But she is not welcome.”

He added: “We’re a local club – we’re more of a local bar than a strip joint – there happen to be scantily clad women walking around. We are a very local club and do not welcome this type of behavior at all.

Mr Ross said he didn’t think Ms Thorpe had visited Maxine’s – which bills itself as “the hottest strip club in Melbourne north of the CBD” – before.

Footage of the incident shows Ms Thorpe pointing fingers at the men in a heated exchange.

At one point Mrs Thorpe approaches one of the men and says in a menacing tone: “You, you are marked”.

One of them calls her a “racist dog,” to which she replies, “f*** you,” before a friend stops her.”

She tells the men, “Anything I want to say to the black brothers there and everyone we’re fighting…

“Any black guy standing there with that damn white little c*** – you (sic) can fuck everybody too!”

The outspoken independent senator, who defected from the Green Party earlier this year, was out with friends to celebrate his 50th birthday.

One of the men asks, “How the hell does someone like you get into Parliament?”

She hits back: “We’ve been oppressed our whole damn lives in this country and you let that little dog do the talking…”

A member of the group told 7News that the senator was “out of control”.

It’s not the first time the former Green Senator has been embroiled in controversy.

Last year, she was forced to step down as vice leader of the Senate Green Party after failing to disclose her relationship with former biker boss Dean Martin while she was on a committee looking into biker gangs.

She was also forced to issue an unreserved apology after interjecting the line “At least I’m keeping my legs closed” during a parliamentary debate allegedly aimed at Liberal Senator Hollie Hughes.

In February, Ms Thorpe caused a scene at Sydney’s Mardi Gras parade when she lay down in front of an Australian Federal Police float after yelling “Fuck the police”.

Last month, she disrupted a “Let Woman Speak” event outside Parliament House in Canberra hosted by controversial suffragette Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull.

Wrapped in an Aboriginal flag, Ms Thorpe made her way to Ms Keen-Minshull before being intercepted by police and pulled down.

She crawled across the lawn and approached a group of more than 100 pro-trans counter-protesters.

The senator from the independent Black Sovereignty movement later claimed she was “pulverized” by police and said Ms Keen-Minshull – who she called “dirt” – was not allowed to speak on Aboriginal land.
